Peabody Energy Corporation


Peabody is the world’s largest private-sector coal company selling approximately 250 mm tons/year between their PRB, CO, AZ/NM, ILB and Australia operations.  BTU owns interests in 28 coal mining operations located in the United States and Australia as well as owning non-controlling interest in a Venezuela mine.  BTU is also pursuing interests in China, Mongolia and Indonesia.  As of December 31, 2013, it had 7.34 billion tons of proven and probable coal reserves (largest among coal producers).  Peabody has the second largest legacy liabilities in the industry.  BTU’s coking coal production is limited to Australian production (approx. 16 mm tons).  The company was founded in 1883 and is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri.
